God Save My Shoes, and My Bank Account Too!

Unless you have just crawled out of a hole, you know who Mark McNairy is. It is impossible to browse through any men’s fashion magazines or style blogs without running into that name. Who was once the former creative director for J. Press has now launched his own clothing line, with an emphasis on edgy, fashion-forward footwear (www.markmcnairy.com). As the number of these trendy shoes decreases, so is the amount of money in buyers’ bank accounts. With McNairy footwear starting at around $395, here are similar options that won’t break your bank accounts.

1. Navy Buck. Yellow Soul – Don’t get me wrong, these shoes are very stylish and sure to turn heads on the street with their yellow soles, however at $385, the only head they will be turning is mine when I see the balance of my bank account. Cole Haan offers it’s new LunarGrand Wingtip shoe collection with very similar styles starting at $248 (www.colehaan.com).

2. Loden Suede Chukka – A flashback to the comfortable and stylish boot that re-introduced boots to the fashion scene about five years ago has been reinvented with new, trendy colors. Priced at $358, I would rather spend the money on items that didn’t make me feel like a sucka. John Varvatos offers the same Chukka boot at half the price (www.johnvarvatos.com).

3. Carnivale Saddle – One of McNairy’s craziest designs, these wingtips are sure to make a statement. Priced at $425, which would gain us admission to a real carnival about fifty times, is a crazy amount of money to pay for these shoes. Dr. Martens offers several different wingtip designs, starting at $200. (www.dmusastore.com).

4. Chick Magnet Loafer – Resembling what Hugh Hefner wears around the Playboy Mansion, these loafers are sure to attract the bunnies. Starting at $498, you may have to put the smoking jacket on layaway. Aldo offers several similar styles of loafers starting at $75 (www.aldoshoes.com). They may not have the tassels, however, your girl can make up for that in the bedroom.
