Your Spa Treatment at Home

In these days of long commutes, classes, work, family and social life, is hard to find enough time to pamper yourself. Going to a spa for nurturing might require extra time, and extra money. However, there is always a homemade version of everything, if you decide to do some skin care at home, you don't always need expensive beauty products or a huge space. All you need, are some basic ingredients in the shower for a happy healthy skin.

Scrubs are one of the most popular treatments at spas, and are also available in the market with different labels for all types of pockets. Although, with a few ingredients from your kitchen you can make your own artisanal spa therapy that will help you exfoliate your skin while moisturizing it, right in the shower.

There are two basic types of scrubs, salt and sugar. Sugar scrubs tend to be gentle and easier on sensitive skin, this one is great if you are a first time user. Also, the sugar scrub can be used as often as you want. Contrary to sugar scrubs, the salt scrub is great on rough skin like feet, elbows and knees. The salt scrub also has mineralizing properties that help to achieve healthy skin, in case of acne it helps to absorb skin oil. Salt scrubs can be slightly abrasive and they're not to be used on irritated skin or used more than once a week.

Here are two simple recipes for each type of scrub that you can apply before getting out of the shower. All you have to do is mix the ingredients to have a consistent texture, rub it in your skin specially in the rougher areas, and remove with water only.

Sugar Scrub
            • ½ cup of brown sugar
            • 1 tablespoon of cinnamon
            • ¼ coconut, almond or olive oil.

Salt Scrub
            • ½ cup of fine sea salt
            • ¼ coconut, almond or olive oil
