Fall 2012's Top 5 Menswear Essentials

esquire.com

As we slowly leave the heat of the summer behind and enter into fall, one thing that is always on my mind is what essentials I should add to my wardrobe to stay on trend and looking stylish this fall. After doing some research, I have decided that these are the top five items that every guy should add to his closet for fall 2012.

1. Blazer - This essential outerwear piece is a great way to dress up any casual look. By adding a blazer, one automatically looks professional and has that "I can do anything" mentality about them. You can stay safe by choosing a solid color such as navy blue, however if you are feeling daring, add a printed pattern.
2. Dark Denim - One must-have piece for fall 2012 is definitely a pair of dark denim. With even the most popular designers incorporating denim into their collections, dark denim is becoming accepted not only in casual settings, but in the workplace as well. A piece of advice though, stay away from acid or stone-washed denim. These washes take away from the denim's professional appearance and the rest of your outfit as well.
3. Oxford Button Down Shirt - I always make sure that I have plenty of oxford shirts in my fall wardrobe. They work as a great shirting option whether it is going out on the town or heading into the office. With many different patterns and fabrics to choose from, they are a great staple piece for any autumn wardrobe.
4. Printed Sweater - What was once thought of as a gift from your grandmother, printed sweaters are back in full swing this season and are a hot commodity. They work great as an outerwear option if you are not in a jacket wearing mood and have the ability to dress up any look, while still remaining comfortable.
5. Ankle Boots - As we head into the depths of 2012, one thing that is obvious is the development of different footwear options. One option that is taking over is the ankle boot. With many designers leaving the traditional dress shoe/loafer behind and going this route, these trendy footwear options are available in many different fabrics and prints. They are a great way to make any look more edgy, while remaining trendy at the same time.
